Children’s Christmas Party for Underprivileged Families

Our Tradition

For decades, our Council has embraced the joy of giving by creating a truly special Christmas celebration for families who might not otherwise be able to celebrate the season. The program was first led by Past Grand Knight Jerry Schiazzanno, who established a heartfelt tradition: every child received a “Sunday best” outfit, a Christmas gift, and the chance to enjoy a festive holiday luncheon.

Today, we proudly carry that legacy forward. Year after year, each new committee builds on the success of those before them, bringing love, laughter, and Christmas cheer to children and families who need it most. Our Children’s Christmas Party continues to be a shining example of the Knights of Columbus’ mission to serve our community with compassion and joy.

How to participate in this program

Preparations start in early September, and the party is usually held the second weekend of December (with the third weekend as a snow date). We welcome help in four main phases:

1. Planning (September onward)

Help us set the stage: choose families to support, plan entertainment, create the gift list, draft the budget, launch the donor campaign, plan the menu, and coordinate logistics.

2. Gift Buying & Wrapping (November)

This is our biggest need! Volunteers shop for and wrap gifts so every child receives:

  • Winter coat

  • Pants & shirt

  • Toy from their wish list

  • Stocking stuffers

3. Decorating (Early December)

Turn the hall into a North Pole wonderland—from building sets to hanging lights, we need many hands to make the magic happen.

4. Day-Of Volunteers (Party Day)

Join the fun! Play games with the children, serve food, and help Santa’s helpers deliver the right gifts to each child.
